Gardai and PSNI officers in the North believe a number of gangs with members who have links on either side of the Border are preparing for thefts in coming days.
Gardai have stepped up patrols, particularly in Inishowen and along the Border in the east of the county.
Farmers and builders are being warned to check their security after the theft of expensive machinery in recent months.
Rural communities are also being asked to check on neighbours and secure their properties when away from home.
The public is encouraged to make reports on any suspicious activity as it gives Gardai the best idea of emerging patterns in different areas.
People in the community are particularly asked to become more vigilant for the movement of cars and vans in particular which would be categorised as ‘strange’ and not from the area.
Registration numbers, colour and if possible make should be forwarded to local District Headquarters stations (see below) which are open on a 24/7 basis should be contacted so that this information can be considered for further dissemination amongst the community via the Community Text Alert Scheme which are in operation in conjunction with Community Alert in various areas throughout the County.
