A woman who offered to drive her friend’s car home – after her friend had been drinking has been fined for not being insured to drive the vehicle.
Tracey McCrabbe, 33, with an address at Drumotoland, St Johnston, appeared at Letterkenny District Court on Monday afternoon.
Mrs McCrabbe who hadn’t been drinking – offered to drive her friend’s car home after her friend who had taken alcohol was going to attempt to drive home.
Gardaí stopped the vehicle and established that Mrs McCrabbe wasn’t insured to drive the vehicle in question.
The court heard how Mrs McCrabbe – a mother of five, was currently unemployed and that her relationship had broken up recently.
She realised what she did was wrong – but she intervened because she didn’t want her friend driving the car while under the influence of alcohol.
It was a very short journey they were undertaking – but she realises she was wrong to drive the vehicle her solicitor told the court.
She has no car at present – but has attempted the driving test twice – unfortunately she has been unsuccessful on both occasions – but is going to re-sit the test again in the near future.
Judge James Faughnan decided to adjourn the case for twelve months.
