The Club AGM was held last Monday night and there was a large attendance with much energy and enthusiasm in the meeting. Reports were provided by the existing committee. Ita Gallagher who has been chairperson for the past 5 years and given so much stepped down from her role. The committee, parents, athletes, coaches and children all know her level of commitment and effort during that time and would like to formally thank and recognise the huge contribution she has made. A new committee was elected as follows: Chairperson – Aidan Gillespie, Vice Chair – Micheal McElroy, Secretary – Elize Gillespie, Competition Secretary – Anne Greene, Registrars: Leeanne Sharkey, Rosaleen Doherty, PRO: Sharon Wilson, Treasurer: Greta Duffy, Assistant Treasurer: Noreen McGee, Parental CoOrdinator: Sinead Diver, Danielle McDyer, Club welfare officer: Grace Garvie, Adult Coaching and Development Officer: Michael Logue, Juvenile Coaching and Development Officer: Ita Gallagher, Club Captains: Paul McGee, Noreen McGee, County Board Reps: Michael McElroy, Michael Logue, Sinead Diver, Edward Harkin. Sportshall Athletics has started again on Mondays in RCS gym, Dungloe. First group is from 5:45pm to 6:45pm for athletes born 2006, 2007 and 2008 with coaches Leeanne Sharkey and Emer McGee. Second session is from 6:45pm to 7:45pm for athletes born 2005 and older with coaches Louise Gillespie and Sean McGinley. Fee is two euro. The Donegal Sportshall trials will take place in the Aura on Sunday 31st January.
There is sprints training for juvenile athletes born 2002 and older on Wednesday evenings in the Industrial Estate in Gweedore from 7pm to 7:45pm with coaches Fergal McGee and Sean McGinley. Meet at Euroflex.
Adult training sessions have reverted back to Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Estate in Gweedore starting at 7pm. These are group sessions open to all levels of adult athletes from beginners, people looking to transition from Couch-To-5k to next level and experienced and Senior level athletes. We had a number of newcomers last week which was great to see. Paul McGee will continue to coordinate the more experienced athletes with Niall Griffin coordinating the beginner and Novice level athletes. Open to public and not just Rosses members. Meet at Euroflex. All levels of athletes or runners welcome. Sunday long runs starting from the Blue Bridge – check with Paul for times. Most focus for now is on the Bundoran 10 mile in March.
There were good performances from Acres N.S., Burtonport and Roshine N.S., Maghery at the Donegal Small Schools Sportshall Athletics Finals in Donegal Town. Acres N.S. finished in 2nd place and Roshine N.S. finished just behind them in 3rd place at what was a well organised and enjoyable event.!
Registrations are now due and all athletes competing in Sportshall, Track and Field or Cross Country all need to get registered now. Forms can be from any committee member and there will be a Registration night to be announced shortly.
