The trial date has been set for a man accused of the double-murder of an elderly couple in Carndonagh.

Jimmy and Kathleen Cuddihy were brutally murdered in their own home on the 23rd of October, 2014.

The couple’s son Julian Cuddihy was charged with the crimes and has been remanded in custody ever since.

Mr Cuddihy appeared this morning at Letterkenny District Court where he was served with a book of evidence by Garda Robert Carey.

Garda Robert Carey told the court, “This morning, Monday, 18th January, I served the book of evidence at Letterkenny Courthouse, Justice Walsh Road, to Mr Julian Cuddihy.

“He made no reply when served with the book of evidence.”

The court heard that the DPP have sent the accused forward for trial and the date has been set.

Mr Cuddihy has now been sent forward to the next sittings of the Cental Criminal Court on the 25th January 2016 in order to fix a date for a trial

Cuddihy only spoke briefly during the court appearance.

Judge James Faughnan outlined to the defendant the conditions of his bail and asked Mr Cuddihy did he understand?

Mr Cuddihy simply nodded his head and replied  “Yes.”

Mr Cuddihy was then led away in handcuffs and returned to the medical facility in Dublin where he now resides.
