GARDAÍ have issued a safer driving alert to motorists in County Donegal after snow, ice and hail made driving conditions treacherous in many areas this morning, with more snow forecast for this afternoon.
Passing heavy showers of the white stuff have hit some parts of the county.
Forecasters had warned of wintry showers yesterday. An Orange Status Snow Warning is in place until midnight.
There will be further snow and sleet showers tonight.
A Garda spokesman told Donegal Daily: “With hail, sleet and snow forecast motorists are advised to slow down, maintain a safe driving distance and always expect the unexpected.
“Gardaí are advising motorcyclists and cyclists to take extra care. All road users are advised to take extra are and allow extra time for your journey.”
