Jason Black has achieved another stunning feat in high-altitude mountaineering after reaching the summit of Aconcagua in the Argentinian Andes.
Black, famously scaled Mount Everest a number of years back and also attempted to become the first Irishman ever to summit the notorious K2 and survive.
Irishman Ger McDonnell scaled the beast in August 2008, but died after an avalanche killed him and some of his travelling party on their return to basecamp.
Black’s attempts became unstuck due to a combination of severe weather and a avalanche which destroyed most of their gear.
Black was despondent – but quickly refocused on his next challenge which was Aconcagua.
Black had said in an earlier podcast on Donegal Daily that they were suffering the worst weather seen on Aconcagua for years and they were forced to return to basecamp.
However, there was no stopping him on his second attempt and he scaled the mountain at 6.30pm Irish time yesterday evening.
Well done Jason on another incredible achievement.
