GARDAI say heavy hail showers and snow in higher areas is causing difficulties for motorists on the roads.
A Garda spokesman has urged motorists to drive with extreme caution.
A heavy hail storm left Ardara covered in white just before lunchtime.
Since then heavy hail storms have hit Gaoth Dobhair, Letterkenny, Milford and Buncrana among other places.
A car left the road near Crolly. Gardai say there are slippery conditions on Termon/ Gweedore Rd (R251) & Termon/ Falcarragh Rd (R256). Gardai advising caution on both routes.
It has started to snow in Ballyshannon, say local gardai, where motorists are being told to drive with care.
Further south heavy snow is making it difficult for motorists in Leitrim and Sligo.
The wintry showers came after overnight black ice – and snow in higher areas – hit the county.
Donegal County Council say gritting lorries are on duty for the rest of the day, treating main routes.
Temperatures are expected to drop to -3C overnight tonight with the current weather warning due to be lifted tomorrow lunchtime.
