SHEEPHAVEN SUB AQUA CLUB NOTES.
Saturday morning’s Sheephaven SAC dive was to Glinisk, a sheltered bay just upstream from Mevagh Boat yard.
Maximum depth at this site is no greater than 12 metres and it has a good sandy seabed complete with lugworm castings and a few nice reefs that provide protection for some lovely large Conger Eels.
Also observed on site was a cute little baby Dogfish, not much longer than finger length, loads of shore Crabs, anemones and an elegant Thornback Ray.
Maximum surface to surface on the calm but chilly winter’s morning was 30 minutes, with water temperatures of 6 degrees Celsius and good in-water visibility of over 4 metres horizontally, all of which produced a lovely Saturday morning dive with plenty of quality marine life to see.
Sheephaven SAC had another above average turnout of Sheephaven snorkelers on Sunday morning in PortnaBlagh harbour.
Conditions were quite good, with just the occasional hail shower to remind everyone that we are still in the depths of winter.
In-water temperature never rose above 8 degrees Celsius but water visibility was reasonable throughout the morning. As always the debrief in Dunfanaghy was well worth coming out for in its own right.
