A MAN caught driving at 141km/hr on the dual carriageway between Manorcunningham and Letterkenny has kept his driving licence after telling a judge he has learned his lesson after attending a safer driving course.
Brian McGovern, 21, pleaded guilty to the offence on June 21 last year.
He was in Donegal for the rally at the time.
He had been ordered at a previous sitting of Letterkenny District Court to attend the Pro-Social Driving Course, a classroom-based course where dangerous drivers meet to discuss their actions with car crash victims and members of the emergency services.
He drove from his home in Gleneely, Co Antrim, to attend the four week course.
“It was a real eye-opener seeing what could happen to you,” McGovern told Judge Paul Kelly.
The shop assistant pleaded guilty to one charge of dangerous driving in his Seat Leon at Trimragh.
Judge Kelly fined him €400, telling his solicitor Patsy Gallagher: “I won’t disqualify him time but his licence is in jeopardy if he drive like this again.”
