Icy roadsDONEGAL County Council gritting lorries are being deployed on major routes across Donegal overnight as wet and windy weather is replaced by a widespread frost.

Met Eireann has warned of icy conditions on roads between now and dawn tomorrow.

Donegal County Council said gritters would work on main routes around the county from 9pm.

Met Eireann says cloud will tend to break as the night goes on.

Winds will slacken tonight also and it will become much colder. Lowest temperatures of -3C can be expected in some inland sheltered areas, resulting in widespread sharp ground frost and icy patches on untreated surfaces.

Motorists on untreated roads are warned to drive with extra care as many roads are extremely wet from recent heavy spells of rain.
