Word has it that Santa Claus had an emergency stop in the Olde Glen Bar on Christmas eve.
A last that’s what a number of the patrons of the delightful pub have claimed.
In fact, one has even penned a poem to recall the visit by the stranger who lost his phone signal close to Lough Salt.
Here’s their efforts in all its glory. We love it!
St Nick Stops in to Glen
Twas the night before Christmas, and inside of Glen,
We all gathered to share a drink, with family and friends,
When all of a sudden, the door swung a jar,
And a wee jolly buck, walked into the bar,
He was all dressed in red, nearly as wide as the door,
And had a lovely white beard that reached down to the floor
He looked a bit lost and spoke with a whisp,
About a sled, and some elves, and a very long list,
And of sweets, and bikes, and a load full of toys,
To deliver across Glen, to all the good girls and boys
“All was going well, up to the last address,
and then the battery died on my GPS,
I cant ring home, it’s 3mobiles bloody fault,
I lost my damn signal coming over Lough Salt”
Mary spoke up and told him not to worry,
“Sit and have a drink, sure what is the hurry,
Ashleen, get this man a Brandy and Port,
And the rest of us will give him logistical support”
After a few drinks, he was back on his way,
But we made sure an elf took the reigns of the sleigh
(Tis always good idea to bring a DD, or ask the bar to sort out a taxi)
All over Glen, down came the snow,
As we gathered outside to see the last show,
With a clatter and batter and whistle and kick,
Up rose the sled, the elves and St.Nick
And we heard him call out, as he flew out of sight,
“Merry Christmas to All, And to All a Good Night!!”
