BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE: By CHRIS MASSEY FERGUSON: SANTA has arrived in Co Donegal in the last few minutes, according to eye-witnesses.
The Irish Coast Guard has also just confirmed the first signal from a special GPS system fitted inside the nose of a reindeer called Rudolf.
“I couldn’t believe he’d be here in Annagry first,” said local man John Paul McFadden, who was standing outside Sharkey’s Bar when he saw Santa slow up and said ‘hello ho ho’.
“I waved and shouted to him and he said he was doing his Donegal rounds first and was doing it in alphabetical order this year after complaints made to Donegal County Council so he’s starting in Annagry in the next hour before heading to Burtonport, then Carndonagh and Creeslough.
“He’s no slow coach, that’s for sure. I asked him if he’d pose for a selfie but he said he didn’t want to be late.”
The unusual zig-zag tour of Donegal was confirmed by retired councillor David Alcorn.
“We never get nothing in Burtonport so I raised it with Santa’s people at the North Pole that we should be first this year and they came up with this system and it works for us because that means he’ll be here soon,” said Mr Alcorn, pictured left a short time ago.
John McMistletoe, a spokesman for the Irish Coast Guard, said: “We reckon he’ll be around Donegal in no time at all so we’d advise children to be heading to bed shortly.
“He’ll hold off though on houses were children are at Mass or church services this evening.”
Mr McMistletoe added: “It’s all very exciting. I hope I get a new iPhone because this one I’m speaking to you on now is about to….”
Meanwhile Mr McFadden will be in Sharkey’s Bar later on if anyone wants to chat to him about what he saw.
