DDTV: BALLYSHANNON GEARING UP FOR 8TH ANNUAL SOUND MAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS

DDTV: Watch this video above and see how the anticipation is building ahead of the 8th annual Sound Man of the Year awards which are held during Christmas every year in Ballyshannon.

The coveted awards ceremony takes place on the 27th of December at the popular Dicey Reilly’s pub in Ballyshannon.

Ciaran McLoone explained to Donegal Daily what they’re hoping to achieve with the Sound Man of the Year awards ceremony.

McLoone said, “Its about community, friendship and Pride of Place.

“Ballyshannon is a town which suffered very badly from the recession and is very much still suffering but we want to champion all that is great about the town and the people doing great work in the town.

“We want to promote that as much as possible and make sure those of us living away from home have something they can share about Ballyshannon being a great place.

“We want other towns and villages around Ireland to do the same thing.

“Each have their own awards, its gives them the opportunity to bring friends together, give a great reason for people to stay connected throughout the year (we run events during the year too).

“Let them get together and promote their own towns and villages and what is great about them.

The lads also organise quarterly Steak and Cigar nights in Dublin.

Where they choose a venue (restaurant in Dublin and they all meet for the night, have dinner and head out after).

We’re told that obviously non attendance at one of these 4 events during the year could have a bearing on your chances of winning sound man.

On the day of the awards at 3pm they have a football match against the Young Boys of Sound.

The match is called the Alan Gallagher & Niall Anderson memorial shield, its in memory of two of their friends that died tragically in 2005.

They have it on the day of the Sound Awards as its great to remember our friends on a day when we all together.

They have a shield and it is presented to the winning captain at the awards on the night.
