SENIORS
Gweedore Celtic 2 Cappry Rovers 2
At a windswept Screaban, Cappry Rovers will be happy enough with a share of the points. The visitors played with the aid of the wind in the first half but despite having the bulk of possession they created four chances. The home side should have gone ahead on ten minutes but Tommy Diver couldn’t convert Colin Ferry’s cross. Cappry took the lead on twenty minutes when a corner into the goalmouth broke to Michael Lynch and he lashed it into the net. Gweedore were back on level terms five minutes later when Odhran Mc Niallais was fouled in the penalty area and Jamie Boyle took the penalty and although the keeper stopped the kick the ball rolled over the goal line. Ten minutes into the second half the home side went ahead with Colin Ferry finishing an in-swinging corner from Jamie Boyle. Gweedore pushed forward but despite hitting the post and the crossbar they couldn’t increase the lead. They were made to regret those mistakes when Paddy Mc Nulty headed in from close range on seventy five minutes. Best for Gweedore were Peter Mc Gee and Jamie Boyle. A decent team effort from Cappry. CAPPRY ROVERS UNDER 16’s
Cappry Rovers 5-1 Drumkeen Utd
First against second met in Cappry on Saturday morning. Cappry were playing against a strong breeze in the 1st half and went ahead in the 9th minute when Sean McBride picked up the ball deep in his own half and went on a mazy run and found Karl McGlynn on the right who crossed to find Sean McBride at the back post who finished well. In the 17th minute Cappry doubled their lead when a Sean McBride free kick was well saved by the Drumkeen keeper but Oisin Gallen pick up the loose the ball and picked out Luke Gavigan who volleyed his effort into the roof of the net from close range. After this Drumkeen came back into the game and went close in the 24th minute when Jerome Duffy hit the crossbar with a fine strike from outside the box. In the 29th minute Drumkeen went close again through Dylan McNamee when he put his effort just past the post. Drumkeen finally got the reward their good play deserved when Jerome Duffy hit the bar and the Drumkeen players reacted quicker and Dylan McNamee headed home. Cappry started the 2nd half well and in the 44th minute went 3-1 up when the Drumkeen keeper could only parry Sean McBrides 25 yard strike out to Kyle O’Meara who made no mistake with a fine finish. In the 50th minute Sean McBride got his 2nd with another smart finish. In the 57th minute Sean McBride got his hat trick when he picked up a Jamie Keegan pass. McBride rounded 3 Drumkeen players before curling his left foot shot into the bottom corner. The teams kept looking for goals and played some good football but neither could add more goals. CAPPRY ROVERS UNDER 14’s
Cappry Rovers 3-2 Raphoe Town
This was a clash between the top 2 in the league.
Raphoe got off to a good start and were ahead in the 8th minute when Caolan McMonagle finished well at the back post. Cappry came back into the game then and pressed looking to get level but the Raphoe keeper pulled off 2 smart saves from Joel Bradley Walsh. The game was end to end now with both teams looking for goals. Raphoe double there lead when Corey McBride finished well at the back post. Raphoe were then reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half time. Cappry started well in the 2nd and pulled a goal back in 38th minute when Kieran Neeson found the bottom corner with a 20 yard strike. In the 44th minute the home side were level when Conor Doherty finished well from a Joel Bradley Walsh pass. Cappry went searching for a 3rd but Raphoe defended well and were dangerous on the break. In the 56th min Cappry took the lead when Joel Bradley Wash found Kieran Neeson who tapped home from 6 yards. Both teams played good football in tough conditions. Raphoe pressed to get level but Cappry held on to win. Two team performance’s. Ref: Michael Connolly.
Next weekend they are away to Fintown Harps in the league.
CAPPRY CRUSADERS AND CAPPRY COLTS UNDER 12’s
Cappry Crusaders 1-1 Bonagee Arcade
U12 Cappry Crusaders welcomed Bonagee Arcade to a Floodlit Cappry park on Friday 5/12/14 for a 6pm kickoff. In what was a free flowing match both sides gave as good as they got, keeping both sets of supporters glued to the action. Conor Thompson opened the scoring after some clever passing by Dane McGlinchey and Jason Dunne. A Cappry defensive mix up let Bonagee back into the game and try as they might Cappry could not create a winning goal in the final few minutes. Conor Thompson was simply outstanding, covering every blade if grass for his team. Credit also to Kian Mulligan and Odhran Thomas in defence. Thanks to Bonagee manager Mark Patton and his boys, for an action packed display which was thoroughly enjoyed by both team’s supporters.
Next weeks fixture is a home tie with Gweedore Utd AFC.
Ballyraine 3-1 Cappry Colts
Ballyraine Utd came out on top in this match where they showed why they still have a 100% record so far. The Colts had 3 or 4 good chances early on with Sean Lyons showing well early on. Ballyraine struck twice midway through the 1st half to lead 2 nil at the break. The Colts got caught again 10 minutes into the 2nd half to go 3 down. Shortly after this the Colts put on huge pressure and got their rewards 15 minutes from the end when Daniel Taberski passed to Odhran Quigley Doherty who Struck from the edge of the box to make it 3-1. Well Done to a good Ballyraine team and the 16 players who travelled from Cappry with Cormac O’Donnell, Sean Ryan and Brenda Carr never giving up in a gritty team display.
Next up is an away trip to Gweedore Celtic Cosmos.
