Patrick McBrearty is hoping he can become a regular under new Donegal manager Rory Gallagher.
McBrearty was dropped for the Ulster SFC final last season and also started the All-Ireland final on the bench.
McBrearty was deployed as an impact sub by Jim McGuinness after struggling to convert his club form with Kilcar to Donegal.
McBrearty admitted that it frustrated him, and he’s now hoping he can consistently perform on a regular basis under new manager Rory Gallagher.
However, McBrearty doesn’t want to play a bit-part role and wants to be a regular starter under Gallagher next season.
McBrearty also revealed that he was surprised Gallagher applied for the job.
McBrearty said, “I go out for my club, I would kick ten points and then come back for Donegal, score nothing and they’d say, ‘Why is he doing it for the club?#8217;
“It is frustrating. People are often saying it to me.
“I didn’t actually think he would go for it. Fair play to him because they are big shoes to fill after Jim – three Ulsters, an All-Ireland and getting to another final.
“That was a massive achievement after where we were in 2010 but Rory had a part to play in that.
“He was probably the number one choice but it’s great to have him involved. We know what he’s like, we had him in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He’s a very shrewd operator and is probably one of the best coaches I’ve ever had.
