A Letterkenny man caught with €1,500 worth of cannabis in a secret drugs hide has been told that it is people like him who breath oxygen into the drugs industry.
Gary O’Brien appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being caught with the drugs in a Garda sting operation.
O’Brien, of 40 Gleneadon, Killyclug, was caught with the drugs by Gardai at Gort na Corrib, Letterkenny on April 17th last.
Inspector John O’Toole said inside the hide, Gardai found three ounces of cannabis which were bagged as well as a weighing scales.
The 24 year old made full admissions to Gardai and said he had been selling the drugs to friends for a matter of just months.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian said O’Brien had bought the drugs through a third party for €900 and they had a street value of €1,500.
He added that at the time his client was not working and the decision to sell drugs was purely a financial one.
He added that O’Brien was not being forced into selling the drugs or was he adicted to any substances.
Judge Paul Kelly addressed the accused and said that selling cannabis may seem harmless but warned that he could find himself in deep water.
“Small-time dealers like yourself provide oxygen to this industry which causes so much damage to communities around the country,” he said.
He added that because he had no previous convictions he would adjourn the case until January 26th and asked for a probation report to be carried out.
