Rory Gallagher is giving over thirty club players the chance to impress him and his new backroom team by hosting trials over the next month.
Gallagher hopes to name a thirty-five man county panel for the forthcoming 2015 season.
One familiar face amongst the players at the trial was Mark McHugh.
McHugh opted to leave the panel last April, and headed stateside for the summer.
However, McHugh played a pivotal role under McGuinness’s tenure and his return will be a welcome boost to Donegal supporters.
Former panellists Adrian Hanlon and Gary McFadden were the other players who had played under former manager Jim McGuinness that are hoping to return to the Donegal set-up.
Gallagher has called up players who have impressed him during the recent Donegal SFC and Intermediate Championship.
It’s expected that they’ll be involved in a number of trial matches, as Gallagher looks to name his squad for the forthcoming season in the New Year.
The decision by Gallagher to bring in club players who have consistently impressed in the last twelve months for a significant trial period over the next four week has been praised.
Gallagher will hope he can unearth some hidden gems, and hopefully those impressing at club level can continue that form at a higher level and earn a place in the squad.
