Daniel O’Donnell has admitted that Christmas will be very different this year as it will be his first without his beloved mum Julia.
The much-loved 94 year old passed away in May after a short illness.
Heartbroken Daniel, 52, said his mum loved nothing more than having all her family home in their native Donegal for the festive season.
“Of course we’ll be home for Christmas. This Christmas will be very different for us all, as it will be the first without my mother. She will be greatly missed by all of us, as she loved having all the family home for Christmas,” he said.
Daniel will spend Christmas with wife Majella at their home in Kincasslagh and will sing at midnight mass at St Mary’s Church in the local village.
The singer is already experiencing pre-Christmas freezing temperatures as he tours the US amidst huge snowfalls.
He revealed “As I write this note I’m sitting in our cabin in Branson, Missouri. It’s a lovely hot sunny afternoon but boy it hasn’t been like that all the time we’ve been here. We’ve had the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced since I first came here in 1997.
“One night in particular it went down to 19 F / -7c. These calculations might not be exact but they are as near as I can go in my head. So it was “Winter Woollies” all the way.”
But the chart-topping star said it was extra special being in America at this time because his wife Majella could not travel last year as she was undergoing her cancer treatment.
“It was great having Majella with me, as you know last year she was going through treatment at this time, so thank God everything has gone well for her,” he said.
Daniel’s latest album ‘Stand Beside Me’ has just entered the UK charts – making it the 27th year in a row that he has had an album in the UK charts.
