AN investigation has been launched into how a Donegal Garda suffered bites during a vicious unprovoked attack.
The female Garda was left traumatised after the incident as she escorted a female prisoner to Donegal Town court house.
Donegal Daily has learned the Garda had to receive medical treatment and undergo the added trauma of waiting for the results of HIV tests.
The officer was later given the all clear. She did suffer serious bit injuries.
However we understand the prisoner, with a Letterkenny address, should not have been brought to court in the first place.
She should have been remanded to appear via video link.
An investigation is now under way into all the circumstances of the incident including why the prisoner was not remanded to appear via video.
The officer is said to be covering well and has been supported by her colleagues.
