Independent County Councillor Frank McBrearty is to put down a motion calling on Donegal County Councillors to support a motion to abolish water charges.
The former Mayor of Donegal has written to current Mayor John Campbell asking him to hold a special meeting on the water charges issue facing Donegal.
Cllr McBrearty described the situation as a ‘crisis’ which must be addressed.
“I am requesting that a special meeting be held in order to allow the members of Donegal County Council to debate the ongoing crisis that residents face with the billing of water charges by Irish water.
“The elected members can discuss what steps should be taken in support of the citizens that gave us a mandate to represent them at Local government level.
“If a special meeting is agreed, it is my intention to put forward a motion calling on the members of Donegal County Council to support the abolition of water charges on residential homes and that the government accept the decision and mandate we have as public representatives,” said Cllr McBrearty in his letter to council chairman John Campbell.
