The Donegal Association Dublin have held their AGM in the Regency Hotel, Drumcondra and are seeking nominations for this year’s ‘Donegal Person of the Year’.
Sorcha Ní Dhomhnaill, Chairperson, welcomed everyone to the meeting and reviewed the Association highlights.
It was a special year for the Association when Liam Ó Cuinneagáin was inaugurated as Donegal Person of the Year.
There was great excitement from the announcement of the Person of the Year in the Mansion house in January to the Gala Dance at the Regency Hotel in March.
Hundreds turned out to witness this special event in the Donegal Association’s annual calendar.
Liam was considered a ‘special man’, a hero within his local community who has done extraordinary things to develop our Irish language, culture, tourism and local traditions.
He is a truly great ambassador for the Donegal Association!
As we look forward to the year ahead – take note of our upcoming events!
The Donegal Association will hold their Annual Mass of Remembrance in the Regency Hotel, Drumcondra, on Sunday 16th November 2014 at 6.30pm.
The Father McDyer lecture this year will be given by Br. Kevin Crowley who founded the Capuchin Day Centre in Church Street in 1974.
At present, the Capuchin Day Centre distributes 1,800 food parcels every week and provides nearly 700 meals, six days a week.
The centre also provides a medical service, chiropody clinics, an optical service and advice as well as information clinics for the homeless in Dublin.
Br. Kevin is the champion of the homeless and he has worked tirelessly to help those in need without asking any questions or judging anyone.
In recent times the centre has received minimum government funding, however, Br Kevin has been pivotal in leading fundraising campaigns, and every cent raised goes towards helping the homeless.
And finally, don’t forget the search is on for the next Donegal Person of the Year.
The closing date for receipt of nominations is 30th November 2014 so you only have a few weeks left to get your nomination to the association.
Anyone or any group may nominate a person – the main criteria being that the person nominated should have made a significant contribution to the promotion of the county at local, national, or international level.
Nominations should set out the reasons for the nomination and include supporting documentation and endorsements from individuals and groups.
Nomination forms may be downloaded from the Association’s website www.donegalassociation.ie or by request from The Secretary, Donegal Association, c/o Teachers Club, 36 Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
