BIG-HEARTED Daniel O’ Donnell will put on his dancing shoes to help a young boy walk for the first time.
The singer will perform at a dance for the first time in 23 years to raise funds for five year old Paul Doherty who has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
It is just over 8 weeks since the launch of the Donegal fundraiser Mammy, I Want to Walk. The fund wants to raise much need money to send 5 year old boy Paul Doherty to America for life changing surgery.
In this short space of time, a staggering amount of money has been raised to support the wish of the young Donegal boy.
Since the fundraiser started, Anne Marie has been sharing the story about her sons wish to walk and how this could be achieved. Donegal got behind her and her son. The Donegal Senior Football GAA Team got behind her and her son.
Now Daniel O’ Donnell is lending his support. Daniel is well known for getting involved in charitable causes both locally and further a field.
Little Paul’s mother Anne Marie knew it would be a great coup if she could get Daniel O’ Donnell to help her out. With a heavy dousing of Knock holy water & plenty of prayers too, Anne Marie posted a hand written note to Daniel O’ Donnell in Kincasslagh.
She explained that she was arranging a dance in December and hoped that Daniel might be at home to sing a few songs on the night. Daniel O’ Donnell is well known to have a big heart when it comes to supporting those in need.
In the days since that initial contact Daniel O’ Donnell & Anne Marie have been busy organising a very special night to raise funds for young Paul.
Daniel has taken Paul’s story to his heart and promised to be lead act in a fundraising dance at the Villa Rose Hotel, Ballybofey on Sunday 28th December. Daniel explained to Anne Marie that he hasn’t done a dance in over 23 years!
Anne Marie has promised Daniel there will be plenty of room for dancing on the night. Daniel fans will relish this intimate gig with their hero. This will be one of the few opportunities left to see Daniel before he takes an 18-month break from the music business to spend more time with his wife, Majella, who has battled breast cancer.
Anne Marie explains, the goodwill & generosity shown to her and her son have been staggering.
“We have almost €50,000.00 raised to date. I never thought it possible.”
Daniel will be accompanied by Daniel Craig & Grainne Gavigan. Dancing from 10 till late. Tickets available exclusively from Villa Rose Hotel on 074 9132266
