If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise, is the old children’s rhyme, and what a surprise the children, parents and guardians got in Portnoo on Bank Holiday Monday, when Minnie & Mickey Mouse emerged from Bonnyglen Wood.
They couldn’t believe their eyes when the famous Disney characters skipped out hand in hand and joined them for part of the walk.
Approximately one hundred hardy souls had previously set from the Dolmen Centre on a 5k fundraiser for Breast Cancer research, organised by the local Sharpe family from Loughfad.
The event, now in its’ third year is well established as a “must go” annual event for the local community.
Minnie & Mickey joined the walk, from the wood to “Mamie’s” thatched cottage, the home the Sharpe family, where they posed for photos.
The walk then continued back to the Dolmen Centre where the organisers provided an array of ‘pink’ food treats for all the participants.
The Irish Cancer Society representative, Ena Barrett, outlined to the all present the importance of events such as the pink parade in the fight against cancer.
She thanked all involved for a wonderful event and looked forward to next year’s parade.
Pauline (Sharpe) McGroary told Donegal Daily, “We wanted a surprise for the children, and a friend of friend knew Minnie & Mickey and they kindly obliged.
“Only two people knew about it, I didn’t even tell my mother!”
