Ciaran Bonner was black-carded during Glenswilly’s Donegal SFC semi-final win over Naomh Conaill. However, it has since emerged that referee Jimmy White should have sent him off. He didn’t, and now Naomh Conaill are launching an appeal.
Naomh Conaill GAA club ‘WILL’ lodge an appeal for a replay after the club held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the Ciaran Bonner card incident.
Bonner was awarded a black-card by referee Jimmy White, following a cynical challenge on Dermot Molloy in the closing stages of their semi-final victory over Naomh Conaill.
However, Bonner was already on a yellow and should’ve been sent off.
Instead he was shown a black-card, and was substituted Oisin Crawford.
The game was level at the time of Bonner’s dismissal, but substitute Crawford scored the crucial point which edged Glenswilly back in-front in stoppage time.
Glenswilly full-back Eamon Ward sealed the win with a point shortly after.
However, members and officials of the Naomh Conaill GAA club met last night to discuss the situation further.
A club member confirmed to Donegal Daily this morning that following the meeting, the club have decided to launch lodge an official appeal.
It’s believed the club have until 12pm today to submit the appeal to the Donegal CCC to have the game replayed.
There appears to be a precedent for ordering a replay for a similar alleged incident in a Munster Colleges match last January.
When Kerry’s Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne were ordered to replay their match with Cork’s Colaiste Chriost Ri.
