Lifford Celtic 1 Cappry Rovers 2
Cappry took the lead midway through the 1st half when Barney Lafferty scored from 25 yards. Lifford, playing into a stiff breeze, should have equalised twice before half time. James Connolly hit the post and then brought a fine save from the Cappry keeper. Lifford did equalise early in the second half as Declan Lafferty scored following a Mc Brearty cross. Lifford had most of the play in the second half but couldn’t find the net. Benny McLaughlin made Lifford pay when he broke away from the halfway line to beat Paul Given in the Lifford goal with 10 minutes remaining. Connolly went close again for Lifford but Cappry held out for the three points.
Cranford United 4 Donegal Town 1
Cranford overcame Donegal Town in Cranford Park in a hard fought game in tough conditions. Cranford took the lead on 15 minutes when Kyle Black raced clear and chipped the keeper with a perfect finish. It stayed that way until half time with both defences on top. In the second half the wind favoured Donegal Town but the Cranford defence stood strong. Cranford went two up when Kielan Mc Elwaine finished well. With 10 minutes to go Donegal Town got back into the game with a deflected effort. Cranford rapped up the game with two late goals from the impressive Kyle Black who completed his hat-trick. Best for Cranford were James Lee and Kyle Black. Team performance from Donegal town.

Dunkineely Celtic 2 Castlefin Celtic 4
Playing in gale-force winds and pouring rain both teams deserve credit for putting on a good display of football at Darney Park. Castlefin won the toss and elected to play with the elements. They had the home defence under attack from the off but took some time to adjust to the conditions and created few chances during the opening exchanges. Dunkineely had the first real chance after 10 minutes when Andrew Mackey crossed from the left and Adrian Nesbitt was denied by a last ditch tackle on the six yard line. Castlefin hit a purple patch between the 15th and 30th minutes which effectively settled this game.
A free from the left wing was swung into the box and Fergal Mc Nulty rose at the back post to head home. Dunkineely fought hard to get back in the game but were caught on the break on 20 minutes when Barry Tourish fired home from close range after good work on the right wing by Ronan Tourish. Ian Ward added a third two minutes later finishing from close range from another right wing cross. Dunkineely kept going and were rewarded with a lifeline on the stroke of half time when Andrew Mackey was fouled in the box and scored the resulting penalty himself.
Dunkineely came out strongly at the start of the second half and had a chance from a free from 20 yards on 47 minutes but the Castlefin keeper got down well to save Andrew Mackey’s effort. Mackey had a good chance on the hour mark when he headed just over from Alan Kennedy’s cross. Castlefin were always dangerous on the break and Ronan Tourish was just wide with a lob after being put clear by Emmet White. Dunkineely were awarded a second penalty on 80 minutes when Andrew Mackey was again brought down and he again converted from the spot. Despite their best efforts Dunkineely could not find the breakthrough that would have made for a nervous finish for the visitors. Referee Paddy Martin
CT Ball Division Two
Letterbarrow Celtic 2 Glenree United 3
This highly entertaining match ended with the visitors collecting three points although Letterbarrow are left wondering how they lost the match. Letterbarrow missed two great chances in the first five minutes. Glenree went ahead after ten minutes totally against the run of play when a dreadful error in the Letterbarrow defence allowed Barney Boyce to tap the ball into an empty net. Glenree went two nil up from a thirty five yard free when the ball evaded everybody and ended up in the bottom corner, this time from Patrick Mc Cruddy.
The score became 3-0 after half an hour when Colin Gallagher scored from the penalty spot. Letterbarrow scored in the 45th minute when James Mc Groary’s corner was headed home by Conor Mc Daid. Letterbarrow scored their second goal through Conor Gilmore on seventy minutes. Letterbarrow had plenty of chances to equalise but it wasn’t to be. Best for Glenree: Barney Boyce, Best for Letterbarrow: John Roper and Kieran Breslin. Referee: John Coyle
Dunlewey Celtic 8 Eany Celtic 1
On what can only be described as a rough day the home side came out on top with a goal scoring feast. Brendan Mc Geady got the first from a free kick which nested in the top corner. The second and third came from Liam McMullen when he drove through from midfield to score. The next came from Christy Cannon and Kieran Mc Geady then managed to find the net with a wonderful strike. The visitors got one back through William Rose from a free kick. The second half didn’t go well for the home side who missed a hat full of chances but still managed to increase their lead with goals from Christy, Brendan and Kieran while McMullen got his hat-trick.
Best for Dunlewey Celtic were Daniel Gallagher and Liam McMullen. Team performance from Eany
Ulster Junior Cup Preliminary Round
Gweedore United 2 Quigley’s Point Swifts 2
(QPS won 0-3 on penalties)
This game played in dreadful conditions at the Pobalscoil Gaoth Dobhair pitch. The visitors with the aid of the strong wind in the opening half found it difficult to get to grips with the conditions. United went ahead in the 20th minute when an excellent free kick from Gavin Mc Bride was well finished by Niall Friel. In the 33rd minute Quigleys Point got back on level terms with a well hit free kick by Kevin Wallace leaving Owenie Gallagher with no chance in the United nets. In the second half the visitors began to throw the ball about with decent chances falling to Stephen Grant and Joe Johnston. The home side had their own chances through Shane O’ Donnell and Ciaran Mc Fadden. The visitors took the lead in the 71st minute when Joe Johnston finished well when he found himself one on one with Owenie Gallagher. The home side were back on level terms just two minutes later when Darren Ferry hit a screamer from 20 yards leaving Aidan Campbell in the visitor’s nets with no chance. The game ended in a 2-2 draw and went to penalties. Quigleys Point Swifts advanced to the next round winning 3-0 on penalties. Good performances by both sides in poor conditions.
Curragh Athletic 1 Drumoghill F.C. 2
Drumoghill Celtic progressed to the 1st round proper of the Ulster Junior Cup but only after a frantic battle with Curragh Athletic at the New Camp Sports Complex in Killygordon. Played under the Floodlights Curragh went in front after Calvin Bradley’s long range shot in the forty fourth minute deceived the keeper to put the home side one up at the break. The game continued to be a tight affair in the second half with Drumoghill playing possession football but not really producing chances. Curragh then lost both Neill Lloyd and Ryan Kelly due to injury. Drumoghill did manage to equalise on eighty one minutes when Eunan Kelly scored. In the closing stages Curragh almost grabbed the winner when Colm Melaugh turned well in the box but his shot was saved. Extra time then and it was Drumoghill who grabbed the winner with Eunan Kelly again supplying the finish after a long ball out of defence caught the Curragh rearguard out. The match overall was a keenly contested one with both sides playing good football. Man of the match Eunan Kelly.
Kilmacrennan Celtic 2 Clonmany Shamrocks 2
(Clonmany won 2-4 on penalties)
Kilmacrennan started off strong on a day that wasn’t ideal for either side. Kilmacrennan took an early lead after good play from Gary Gorman led to a goal from Timmy Burke. Kilmacrennan had a few chances to double their lead in the first half, but Clonmany’s defence held strong. In the 33rd minute Clonmany drew level after goalkeeper Jason Hegarty was caught out in the strong wind from Micky Devlin’s corner. Kilmacrennan regrouped well and took the lead again in the 34th minute after good approach play from Daire McDaid which led to another goal for Timmy Burke. Clonmany stepped it up a notch in the second half with an equaliser on the 59th minute from Raymond McDaid. Both teams had chances to clinch a victory but failed to find the net which led to extra time and the dreaded penalty shoot-out where Clonmany sealed their passage into the next round. Best for Kilmacrennan: Daire McDaid and Ryan Shields. Best for Clonmany: Micky Devlin and Jason Doherty Referee: Martin Mc Anenny
Whitestrand United 1 Lagan Harps 4
On a cold and wet day Whitestrand United took on Lagan Harps in the Ulster Junior Cup. The match began with Whitestrand on the front foot and keeping good pressure on the Lagan team. Kevin Mc Carry went through but was denied by an excellent save from the Lagan keeper. The deadlock was broken when Kenny Doran broke through and slotted past the Whitestrand Keeper. It really was against the run of play in the early stages of the match. Lagan came close to a second when they hit a free kick from all of 30 yards which tipped the crossbar. They eventually did get their second when Chris Toner got in to make it 2-0. This was a sucker punch right on half time as up until this the game was relatively even. Whitestrand came out strongly early in the second half and got their reward when Paddy Sheridan slotted into the bottom corner from distance. However Lagan responded almost immediately when Kevin Kelly scored. Lagan scored the final goal of the game when Chris Toner got his second. He did have a chance to complete his hat-trick but his shot went narrowly past the post. Matt McNulty had an effort which narrowly went past the post but the game ended 4-1.
Ulster Junior Cup Round One
St. Catherines 3 Carndonagh F.C. 0
St. Catherines played host to Carndonagh in the Ulster Junior Cup in Emerald Park on Sunday. David Conwell gave St. Catherines the lead after only five minutes when he was sent through by Barry Cannon. Carndonagh had a couple of chances but the Saints defence held out to half time. The Saints came out in the second half looking to double their lead and they almost did when Brendan Mc Guire had a shoot that went just over the bar. Carndonagh had a chance to get level but the Saints keeper made a great save. On fifty six minutes the Saints doubled their lead when the ball was again played through the Carndonagh defence to Ryan Mc Hugh and he cooly slotted into the Carndonagh net to make it two nil to the Saints. Carndonagh were still creating chances but they could not get past the Saints defence. Shane O’ Rourke headed home David Conwell’s inswinging corner on seventy minutes to secure St. Catherines passage to the next round.
Glenea United 6 Buncrana Hearts 2
Glenea got their Ulster Cup campaign underway with a hard earned victory over the Inishowen men. Despite playing against the strong wind the home team started well and took the lead after 3 minutes when Michael Barry’s through ball released Darren Mc Geever and he slotted past the advancing keeper. Glenea extended their lead on 10 minutes when Darren Mc Geever’s cross from the left was headed back by Dean Mc Carry and Michael Barry drilled home from close range. Buncrana pulled a goal back almost immediately when Shanna Murphy headed home a corner. Buncrana pushed hard for an equalizer but were unable to create a clear cut chance while Glenea looked to play on the break. Buncrana got their equaliser on 40 minutes when Adam Callaghan reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and fired home. In the 2nd half it was the away side that started well and put the home defence under pressure. It took a couple of good saves from Joe Coll to keep Glenea on level terms. As the half progressed Glenea came more into the game and on 65 minutes took the lead when Dean Mc Carry scored with a shot from the edge of the box. Buncrana were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes when Kieran Doherty was fouled in the box, but Joe Coll saved the resultant penalty. Glenea extended their lead on 85 minutes when Darren Mc Geever picked up a loose ball outside the box and smashed it home. Glenea added two more goals in the final moments through Joe Coll whose long clearance went all the way to the net and Cillian Gallagher was then on hand to slot home Tommy Rodger’s cross. Best for Glenea were Eugene Maguire, Kevin McFadden & Darren Mc Geever, while Kieran Gallagher was a constant threat for Buncrana. Kevin Logue was the ref.
Erne Wanderers 3 Ballybofey United 2
Erne Wanderers hosted Ballybofey United in this first round Ulster Junior Cup tie played on Friday night under the lights at the Lakeside Centre. Wanderers played with a stiff breeze at their backs in the first half and were playing some neat football on the deck but were finding it hard to penetrate a well organised United defence. They got the break through on 25 minutes when a defender was judged to handled the ball in the box and referee Mickey Mulhern pointed to the spot. Ryan O’ Brien dispatched cooly into the corner of the net. Erne’s tails were up at this stage and they kept on the front foot looking for the second and it arrived on 39 minutes when Eamonn Cleary ran beyond the visiting defence and his shot bounced back off the post and fell to McNulty’s feet and his shot was saved on the line only for the ball to rebound to Spratt just inside the box and he found the back of the net with a low shot. Ballybofey were struggling to make an impression on the Wanderers backline against the wind with keeper O’ Brien rarely troubled. Then just on the stroke of halftime Darren McNulty scored from 40 yards to put Erne three up at the break. Ballybofey rung the changes at the break and brought on two subs and they started to get a better share of possession and started to put Erne on the back foot but it was the hosts who should have extended their lead 10 minutes in when a great move from back to front resulted in Spratt running through but he fluffed his lines and dragged it wide. United were pushing hard at this stage but the Erne rearguard were holding firm with Lyons winning everything that came his way and a lot of through balls running on to O’ Brien. Ballybofey pulled one back with fifteen minutes to go when Ryan Kelly found the corner of the net when a clearance fell to his feet just inside the box. Ballybofey set up a nervy finish when Paul Bonner scored with five minutes left on the clock when Erne went to sleep at a corner and it was cleared to edge of the box and he struck a low shot into the net. Erne held out to progress to the next round after a really good cup tie played at a very high tempo from the first whistle. A really good team performance from the home team with the returning Eamon Cleary standing out and for the visitors McGowan stood out when he was introduced at the break. Referee: Mickey Mulhern
Dunree United 0 Rathmullan Celtic 6
Ryan Conway scored a hat-trick as Rathmullan blasted their way into the next round of the Ulster Junior Cup. With Conway on fire the Flagpole residents were formidable opposition for their Inishowen opponents. Dara Patton weighed in with a brace while Shea Coyle with a screamer of a free-kick completed the rout by the fort.
Ulster Junior Shield Preliminary Round
Bonagee United 8 Culdaff Reserves 3
Bonagee opened the scoring on two minutes when a Lee Mc Monagle free on the left fell to Mark Hunter just inside to box and he hammered home. Noel O’ Donnell made it two nil on eight minutes when he headed home a Mark Hunter corner from the right. It was three nil on ten minutes when a long throw in by Noel O’Donnell down the left fell to Mark Hunter and he shot home from the edge of the box. Declan Mc Laughlin came close for the visitors on fifteen minutes on to see his shot from fifteen yards go wide. Noel O’ Donnell got his second on twenty minutes when Frankie Mc Brearty put him through on goal and the striker shot home from twenty yards. Niall Gordon for the visitors on the half hour had his strike on goal well saved by Carr in the home goal. O’Donnell got his third on thirty five minutes. Bonagee went six up on forty two minutes when a Frankie Mc Brearty shot from twenty yards found the bottom corner of the net. Culdaff scored on fifty five minutes when William Hutchinson shot home from just outside the box. Mc Brearty got his second on the hour when he shot home from just inside the box after a good through ball from Mark Hunter. Culdaff got their second on seventy minutes when Declan Mc Laughlin’s strike from the edge of the box beat Carr in the home goal. Shane Scanlon got on the score sheet for the home side when he cut in from the left and he shot home from fifteen yards. The final goal of the game came on eighty five minutes when Michael Mc Fadden shot home from ten yards after a good ball in from Mc Granaghan. Team efforts by both sides. Referee: Con Mc Laughlin.
Old Orchard Saturday Division One
Arranmore United A St. Catherines Reserves A
This game was called off by the referee because of the windy conditions. Arranmore played against the strong breeze in the first half and defended very well. The home side created the better openings with Chris Mc Glanaghey and Conor Proctor going close before they opened the scoring on 23 minutes through Mc Glanaghey following good work by Shane Elliot. St. Catherine’s pushed for an equaliser and it duly arrived on 37 minutes direct from a free kick, Arranmore had all the play in the second half and had St Catherine’s pinned back and their pressure paid off on 63 minutes when Michael Mc Hugh finished well following a corner. Arranmore went close again on 68 minutes when Declan Proctor had a goal bound shot cleared. The referee then decided to abandon the game because of the windy conditions on 70 minutes. Team efforts from both sides, Referee: Ronan Floyd.

Drumoghill F.C. Reserves 2 Strand Rovers 3
In a game played in good footballing spirits Strand Rovers came out on top. Strand opened the scoring on five minutes when a fine shot from David Mc Carron sailed into the top corner. Drumoghill equalised five minutes later through Richard Tinney. Tinney latched onto a through ball from Carlos Rodgers to place the ball in the top corner from 25 yards. Strand where ahead again after 30 minutes when Mark Mc Carron capitalised on a defence mistake. Drumoghill responded well and where back on equal terms five minutes later when Ethan Mc Creedy received a ball on the edge off the box and with some quick foot-work the young striker made no mistake with a well placed shot. The second half was a much tighter affair with the only goal off the half arriving on the hour mark through Cathal Boyle.
Good team performance from Drumoghill with John Walsh and Prionsias Forker shining for Strand.
Keadue Rovers Reserves 6 Mulroy Celtic 2
Keadue Reserves gained their first league victory for some weeks with this good win over Mulroy Celtic at Central Park. The opening ten minutes was very scrappy not helped by the very windy conditions and heavy underfoot due to the rain before the game. Keadue had a goal disallowed on fifteen minutes for a foul and a few minutes later Mulroy went ahead when Joe Logue took advantage of a defensive lapse and finished well under the keeper from the edge of the area. The away side then got on top and could’ve been further ahead by the half hour with a number of half chances coming Mulroy’s way. Towards the end of the first half Keadue pushed forward more despite playing against the wind with Adrian Hanlon to the fore. He was unlucky not to equalise on forty minutes when his header from a left wing cross hit the post. Into the second half and Keadue with a number of substitutions made the most of the strong wind at their backs attacking Mulroy from the start. Keadue’s superiority came to tell in a seven minute spell when they scored three without reply. Adam Neely ran on to a through ball from the edge of the area and finished low to the net for the leveller. Then on sixty two minutes they went ahead when Adam Neely poked home from close range from Adrian Hanlon’s centre. Adam Neely made sure of his hat-trick when he shot home after latching on to a rebound. Mulroy, to their credit, came back into the game and were duly rewarded when Packie Mc Elwaine got their second goal. Hugh Yank Boyle made certain of the points on seventy eight minutes when his header from a corner went straight to the top corner of the net. The home side finished the scoring when Adam Neely finished with his fourth of the game, a slight flick from a through ball from the left.
A decent team effort from Mulroy Celtic and some good performances from Keadue most notably Adrian Hanlon, Adam Neely and Sean Bonner. Referee: Barry Hunter.
Curragh Athletic Reserves 2 Drumbar F.C. 2
Curragh were the better team from the start of this game. A well worked goal involving Dylan Irwin and Gary Quinn, who’s shot was well saved from the Drumbar keeper, but Shea Hannigan was on hand to convert the rebound. Drumbar scored in the 40th minute to make it 1-1 at half time. Curragh scored again in the 65th minute through Gary Quinn. Drumbar claimed a share of the points when they scored another equaliser on 89 minutes.
Tullyvinney Rovers 5 Milford United Reserves 0
Tullyvinney Rovers moved into second position in the table following a comprehensive beating of Milford United Reserves in Crossroads Park on Saturday afternoon. Rovers got off to the perfect start with Paul Carlin continuing his good scoring form with two goals inside the opening ten minutes of the game, the second of those the pick of the efforts with a drive from 18 yards giving the Milford ‘keeper no chance.
Midway through the half, Rovers effectively killed off Milford’s chances when Joel Cromie scored with a wonderful individual effort after taking on a number of Milford players. Three soon became four in the second half when Matthew Grant got his name on the score-sheet as he picked up a long goal-kick in the 18 yard box and made no mistake in a one-on-one situation. Milford, to their credit, battled hard in the second half and were unlucky not to pull one back. Milford were undone again, this time by a goal of the season contender, when Daniel Square McNulty found himself with his back to goal a mere 25 yards out and struck a left footed volley on the turn straight into the top corner of the net leaving the watching crowd standing in amazement. A good spirited match played by both teams in good conditions.
Good team showing from Tullyvinney with Matthew Grant and Joel Cromie causing constant problems. Milford produced a team performance. Referee: George Clinton
