Colourful characters from the 1960s like Batman and Robin, JFK and Jackie and John Lennon will all form part of Friday’s fantastic parade to launch the 50th Anniversary Celebrations for Deele College.
Autumn colours are set to get even brighter in Raphoe this Friday morning when Deele College launches its 50th Anniversary celebrations with a spectacular carnival of colour.
Students and teachers from the school will don their best 1960s costumes as part of a fantastic parade from Deele College to the Diamond, where there will also be terrific 60s-style music and dancing.
The local school was established in Raphoe in 1964 as Raphoe Technical College, later changing its name to Raphoe Vocational School and after that to Deele College.
Friday’s dazzling display will now mark the official start of the school’s 50th Anniversary celebrations with more fantastic school events planned before the end of this year.
Indeed, a special weekend of celebrations is also in the pipeline for March 2015, fifty years after the school’s official opening.
“The launch parade and event will be an impressive array of colour and music highlighting the very best of Deele College and we are thrilled to bring it out into the local community where the school has played such a pivotal role over the past 50 years,” school principal Joe Boyle said.
Local Primary School and Playgroup pupils are expected to join in the celebrations that are certain to bring an atmosphere of fun and excitement to the town as the students get ready to break for mid-term.
“Everyone has put in a huge effort into organising what we are sure will be a really special day for Raphoe. We have had great assistance from the local community and local Gardai as well.
Now we’d love as many people as possible to come out on Friday now to watch the parade and come along to the Diamond for the fun and music afterwards,” Mr. Boyle added.
