Jim McGuinness has revealed that he’d never rule out a return as manager of the Donegal GAA Senior team in the future.
McGuinness quit as manager a fortnight ago, after an incredible four-year period as manager of Donegal.
He’s employed as a Sports Psychologist at Celtic FC, and works closely with the club’s first-team, after gaining an internal promotion from new manager Ronnie Delia.
The demands of that job, coupled with the fact he was manager of Donegal for four years, swayed the charismatic Glenties man to quit.
He admitted in an interview with Brendan O’Connor on RTE’s The Saturday Night Show that he’d made his mind up he’d be leaving Donegal prior to their All-Ireland final with Kerry.
McGuinness transformed the Donegal team from perennial no-hopers to All-Ireland champions within two years.
It’s regarded by many as one of the greatest managerial turnarounds in the GAA’s long and illustrious history.
When asked by RTE Radio Sport would he ever consider a return, McGuinness refused to rule it out, McGuinness said, “I love my county and I love the people of Donegal.
“I love everything about the last five years and what the boys have done and what they’ve given to the county, and I would never rule that out.
“I suppose I wanted to give something back to the county. That was the most important thing.
“I’m fierce proud of where I come from, and I enjoyed every minute playing for Donegal, and it was an exceptional honour to manage them as well.
