Donegal Gardai have revealed that prostitutes are now setting up their businesses in the middle of busy housing estates to avoid detection.
Members of the local vice team told Donegal Daily that prostitutes are moving away from traditional apartment block set-ups.
It follows a number of raids by Gardai at various locations at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny in recent weeks.
But one member revealed “They’re moving more and more into housing estates where they would not normally operate.
“They are more anonymous in the larger estates as traditionally they have operated out of the same apartments and they have been under general surveillance.
“People coming and going to houses would be a natural thing on a business housing estate and that is what is going on,” he said.
The Garda added that prostitutes operating in Ireland are actually charging more money to clients than they are in England.
“If you consider this and also the fact that it is cheaper to live in Donegal than it is in Dublin, there is a ready market there,” he added.
An investigation by Donegal Daily showed that there is now a thriving prostitution market in Letterkenny with up to at least a dozen prostitutes operating on any given day.
All the women, most of whom are foreign nationals, are advertising their services on the website Escort Ireland.
As well as pictures of the women, prices for their services are also included on the women’s personal pages.
Even more bizarrely are comments left by punters using the services of the women throughout Letterkenny.
