Traffic has come to a standstill in Letterkenny today – but nobody knows why!

It's bumper to bumper in Letterkenny.

It’s bumper to bumper in Letterkenny.

Motorists have contacted Donegal Daily in a bid to get to the route of the problem.

Many have complained that they only traveled a very small distance in just 20 minutes.

Others have compared it to Christmas week such is the volume of traffic on the roads in and around the centre of the town.

Drivers are now being warned to allow for plenty of time if traveling into the town centre.

One irate driver, Mark Coyle, said the entire traffic layout needs a rethink.

He said “The traffic in Letterkenny is a joke today. I’ve moved an inch in 20 minutes. The whole town needs a new road layout,” he fumed.

UPDATED: The traffic has now eased considerably, and it is believed an accident on the Pearse Road caused the initial lengthy delays and traffic disruption.
