The week of the 6th-10th October 2014 is International Nurses Week and to mark this celebration the nurses in Letterkenny General Hospital are displaying a range of activities they are engaged in.
These activities are to ensure the development of excellence in patient care, including the Enhanced Recover Programme, Specialist Nursing Practice, Nursing documentation, Medication Management and Nurse Education.
Nurses at Letterkenny General Hospital have a high level of skills, qualifications and experience that ensure they are in a position to provide a high quality of nursing care to their patients.
These nurses work in many different roles including Staff Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Managers, Assistant Directors of Nursing, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Director of Nursing.
Letterkenny General Hospital is a teaching hospital and provides clinical placements to approximately 100 nursing students from the LYIT over their 4 year degree programme. Once nurses have completed their undergraduate degree they are then eligible to register as a nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland.
These Registered Nurses then gain the experience and qualifications required for their specialist career pathways. Registered Nurses at Letterkenny General Hospital have post graduate qualifications at Certificate, Diploma, HDip, Masters and Doctoral level and their specialist career pathway choices include clinical practice, education, research and management.
