Hi Everyone, Well we are just approaching probably the most memorable weekend in the history of the club.
We have waited all year for this weekend to come around and it promises to be a weekend never to be forgotten.
We have all the preparations in place to make the clubhouse the place to be all weekend. The marque will arrive on Thursday and we will be able to show the Ryder Cup on three large screens in the Ba rin the marque and if you want a quiet time to watch the action, we have a large screen situated in the Function Room upstairs.
There is entertainment with “Bill and Friends Unplugged” in the Clubhouse on Friday night from 6pm.
Then on Saturday we have the “Ards Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Group” in the Marque from 6pm to 8pm. The All Ireland Hurling final which promises to be another great game can be viewed in the clubhouse. The presentation of prizes takes place on Saturday night in the Marque from 10pm with live music by “Copperhead” to follow. This band played on my Captain’s night and they were excellent. Our chef Cathal will be in the Clubhouse all weekend, so no one should go hungry. We will have another bar set up in the marque.
Anyone who has not signed up to play golf yet needs to do so as soon as possible as the time sheets for Saturday and Sunday are nearly full. The weather forecast is looking good. You can include your name on the timesheets by contacting Mary or Ruth in the clubhouse. There is Open Gents and Ladies Singles on the Friday, 4 person team event on the Saturday (shotgun Start 8.30am and 1pm) and three ball scramble on the Sunday (shotgun start 10.00am). There are great prizes on offer, so don’t miss out.
I would like to thank our main sponsor, Vaughan “Smiley” Monroe. Their sponsorship has enabled us to put great package together to celebrate this weekend in style. I would particularly like to thank Nicola from Smiley Monroe whose attention to detail has been a great help in organising this event.
I wish Paul the best of luck in his role as Captain of the European Ryder cup Team. We have always been extremely proud of Paul’s achievements to date and he has given us numerous memorable days in the clubhouse already with his exploits on the European Tour and the Ryder Cups. Regardless of the result we will still be very proud of what he has achieved come Sunday evening. It would be great if the European Team wins and we celebrate their victory with Paul and the Ryder Cup at some time in the future.
Finally I would urge all members to come to the Clubhouse at some stage over the weekend and bring your friends along to take part in our festivities. Don’t be afraid to spread the word around to your friends and neighbours. There will be plenty of room for everyone. This is our moment and let’s try and make it an occasion never to be forgotten.
Hard luck to Donegal on Sunday. It was a great game and they were just piped by a better team on the day. The team gave us great entertainment through the summer months.

New Year’s Eve At The Clubhouse
We are pleased to announce that the very enjoyable New Year’s Eve Party held at the Clubhouse last year is again being organised. The Band, which by all accounts, “made the party” have again been booked. Food, although yet to be arranged, will be along the same lines as last year. The cost will again be €30 per person and numbers will be strictly limited to sixty people on a “first come” basis. No tickets will be issued, and bookings can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Mary will be in charge of all bookings and as this will sell out very quickly I would advise those interested to contact her immediately and pay by card over the phone.
As this is not priced as a fund raising exercise there will be no refund for those having booked but unable to attend.
If however, you are unable to attend please contact Mary and you will be put in touch with someone on the waiting list willing to buy your ticket.
Finally I would ask all past Captains who are hoping to attend the Past Captain’s competition and meal on Saturday 4th of October 2014 to make contact with Mary and Ruth in the clubhouse as soon as possible to put the arrangements in place for that day.
