A young man who stole a woman’s handbag and also caused almost €500 to a Garda patrol car has appeared in court.
Gary O’Donnell, of Labadish, Letterkenny appeared at Letterkenny District Court yesterday on both theft and criminal damages charges.
The court heard that on May 23rd last, the 20 year old stole a woman’s handbag after she left it on the counter at Voodoo Nightclub.
CCTV footage from the club identified him as taking the bag which contained credit cards and items of a sentimental nature to Lisa Gallagher, the owner of the bag.
The court heard that the bag or its contents were never recovered.
And then on August 1st last, a taxi diver reported fighting and that youths had damaged his taxi.
Gary O’Donnell was identified as being involved and when Gardai went to speak with him, he lashed out and began to abuse Gardai, the court was told.
He also kicked out at the car and caused damage of €468.
Solicitor for the accused, Gordon Curley, told the court his client was under the care of the mental health service and that he had OCD and suffered from blackouts and should not be drinking.
He said O’Donnell had offered Ms Gallagher €100 for the loss of her bag and her items but that this had not yet ben accepted.
The court also heard that O’Donnell has no previous convictions.
Mr Curley suggested his client could liaise with the probation services to which Judge Paul Kelly agreed before adjourning the case until November 17th next.
