GAA NEWS: MOVILLE NARROWLY DEFEATED BY CONVOY IN U16 CHAMPIONSHIP

movilleMoville GAA Notes

The U16 team played their third game in the Division 1 Championship on Monday evening away to Convoy under lights.

The game was even for the first 10 minutes with both teams trading scores however the Convoy struck for a goal in the 11th minute.

The Moville team seemed to lose concentration after this and conceded two soft goals leaving themselves an uphill task to get back into the game.

However credit to the boys, they showed the battling qualities they have shown all year and controlled the 2nd quarter with the full forward line of McLaughlin, Banks and Foynes on top when the ball was played in early.

Great long range points from Cathal McLaughlin and Padhraic Gillen followed by a well taken goal by Jack Banks left it all to play for at half time.

The second half was a low scoring affair with Convoy dropping men back behind the ball.

With 10 minutes to go it was all to play for but then Convoy scored another soft goal after an attempt for a point had come off the upright and ran out winners in the end.

Although defeated, the lads can be proud of how they have played in Division 1 this season.

The work on the training field is clear to be seen and if they continue this there will be a bright future for this team in years to come.

The lads play their final group game in the championship away to Fanad Gaels and will want to go out on a high to finish of what has been a successful season for them.
