A young mechanic fled from a Garda checkpoint before flipping his car onto its roof following a mile-long chase.
Dean Doherty, from Letterkenny, did a u-turn when he came across Gardai at Crieve Glebe on April 25th last.
20 year old Doherty, of 6 Iona Road, appeared at Letterkenny District Court yesterday charged with having no insurance and no valid NCT certificate.
Garda Inspector John O’Toole told the court that pursuing Gardai found Doherty’s car on its roof after it had struck a ditch about a mile form the original checkpoint.
Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client accepted full responsibility for what had happened.
He said he had purchased a ticket to travel and work in America but had delayed his trip due to the court case.
He still planned to go to Boston in the New Year and there was an offer of work there for him.
Mr Gallagher suggested Doherty would benefit immensely from the Pro-Social Driver’s Course.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until November 10th for a probation report.
