From Jersey Day to Freshers Week, Mental Health Week to Movember 2014, Semester 1 at Letterkenny Institute of Technology Student Union, is set to be action packed for students making LYIT their first choice this academic year.
The newly elected Student Union President, Tanya Russell, feels that the way to harness a positive outlook for students, and to encourage better student retention is to provide students with strong on-campus campaigns and activities, which inspire students to connect with their LYIT community.
Many alumni students credit their positive experiences at the LYIT to time spent taking part in the sporting and societies programme at the Institute.
Tanya said “Getting involved in more than the required academic programme, is key to encouraging positive student experiences, this, in turn has a positive effect on student retention, as students feel part of LYIT and not just a student number! My message to students attending LYIT this academic year is to get inspired by getting involved.
“Whether you are interested in team sport, or you have a desire try a new activity or have been a volunteer in your local community, then LYIT Student Union will point you in the right direction and help you on your way to a fulfilling third level experience.”
LYIT Freshers Week 2014 will take place at LYIT campus from Monday 22 September to Thursday 25 September, 2014.
