A total of 19 businesses in the small Inishowen village of Muff have come together to boycott Israeli goods.
Sinn Fein Councillor Jack Murray has commended the business community in the area.
Councillor Murray said “I want to commend the business people in Muff who have made a principled stand against the recent Israeli assault on Gaza. People here were horrified by the images of Israeli air strikes and troops killing thousands of Palestinian civilians – hundreds of whom were children.
“As such a group of local residents came together to lobby local businesses and ask theme to stand with Palestinian and boycott Israeli goods.
“The feedback was fantastic and some 19 businesses agreed to sign up and refuse to sell Israeli products. This stand is reminiscent of the Irish boycott of South African goods during the apartheid era there.
“I hope that this stand can be repeated throughout Ireland again and pressure can be put on Israel to recognise the human rights of the Palestinian people and finally lift the blockade.’
