The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, will visit The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana on Saturday week, September 13th.
The event will be attended by a group of invited guests who are involved with, or have been central to the development of The Exchange over the past eighteen months.
The Exchange chairman, Adrian Grant said “We are extremely excited and honoured to host a visit to our building by President Higgins. Welcoming such an esteemed guest to our recently refurbished building is a great boost to the committee and our many partners in the local community and business sectors.”
Exchange Inishowen Ltd is a new non-profit organization that provides facilities and support for local businesses, community groups, start-up companies, and social enterprises.
Founded in 2013, the Exchange began by bringing a number of local community groups and social enterprises together under its umbrella. Under the collective identity of The Exchange, these groups formed a committee that went about trying to find suitable premises that could be used to provide much needed services.
The group identified the old Social Welfare Office on Castle Avenue, Buncrana, as a suitable building for their needs and set about converting it into a community and enterprise hub.
LEADER funding and financial support from the local authorities was secured and work began on the building in the summer of 2013. The Exchange, as the building is now known, has been providing services and facilities to a wide array of groups for a number of months.
