The Donegal man, now 38, retired from international football two years ago, but said he would return of needed.
Given lost his first-team place at Aston Villa in the early part of last season but went on to impress during a loan spell at Middlesbrough.
The Lifford native is now back at Villa Park and made an eye-catching save in his club’s Capital One Cup defeat by Leyton Orient in midweek.
However, Brad Guzan is set to replace Given in Sunday’s Premier League game against Hull City.
Speaking on Twitter, Given said that he was “delighted to be back” in the Republic squad.
