Sunday World sports writer Roy Curtis has labelled Donegal manager Jim McGuinness a ‘buffoon’ following his comments during the week about Dublin.
Curtis slammed McGuinness for his comments mid-week in which he compared Dublin to Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea.
McGuinness bemoaned the resources available to Dublin, saying there was a serious divide now developing between Dublin and the other counties.
Curtis believes his comments were nothing more than a cheap shot, and an attempt to rile Dublin and Jim Gavin ahead of next weekend’s All-Ireland semi-final between the two titans.
In his column in the Sunday World, Roy Curtis wrote, “Jim McGuinness is a clever man, so it was no accident, no random selection of words when he compared the All-Ireland champions to Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea.
“He attempts to create a narrative of Dublin as the big untouchable bully with the silver-spoon wedged between its leviathan fangs.
“Perhaps even to sire a ready-made mitigation should things not go his or Donegal’s way in a looming contest of unimaginable possibility.
“But, in truth, it only made McGuinness look like a buffoon.”
Curtis has run the wrath of Donegal supporters before with the content of some of his columns.
He received scathing criticism from full-back Neil McGee following an article he penned shortly after Donegal were thrashed by Mayo in last years All-Ireland quarter-final.
Curtis responded to the online criticism from McGee by writing the Gaoth Dobhair an open letter.
His latest remarks will not go down well here in Donegal, and they’ll serve only to add fuel to the fire ahead of one of the most anticipated matches in the GAA for years.
