Hundreds of people are expected at the funeral tomorrow of a man killed while taking photos of a Co Donegal lighthouse.
Award-winning photographer John McCourt, 58, slipped on rocks and fell into the sea during a force eight gale while picturing Fanad Lighthouse.
Despite a brave rescue mission during which he was plucked from the sea after becoming trapped in a gully, he died at Letterkenny General Hospital on Sunday evening last.
A keen cameraman and adventure enthusiast, a service of thanksgiving for John’s life will be held at Baird’s Funeral Home in Antrim near to where he lived.
His remains will be later removed to Roselawn Crematorium.
Hundreds of messages poured in on social media for John who had only buried his wife Sandra three months ago after she died from cancer.
Many of those who left messages wished John “Blue skies forever” – a reference to his love of skydiving.
A death notice in memory of Mr McCourt said “John will be sadly missed by his entire family circle. Irreplaceable.”
