In just 2 years the college has introduced 16 new CAO programmes and a variety of options to go on to study further with add-on Level 8, Postgraduate, Higher Diploma and Masters programmes. Just one of the reasons why the college has seen a 16% increase in student numbers since 2011.
The four academic schools at LYIT – Business, Science, Engineering, and Tourism – offer a broad range of entry level degree programmes, right up to postgraduate Masters.
In addition nearly half of all LYIT CAO courses include an accredited work placement, it allows students to gain valuable experience to launch their careers and employers to access high level candidates in key areas.
LYIT has a strong reputation in offering highly regarded Postgraduate and Part-Time courses for people who wish to enhance their qualifications, are currently looking for employment or perhaps are considering a change of career. This includes an interesting selection of Part-Time courses and Springboard programmes.
According to Registrar Billy Bennett, “Students who study at LYIT are choosing courses which will open up future career opportunities and equip them with skills for future success. The Postgraduate and Part-Time courses we provide will boost career prospects and are also suitable for people who may wish to change direction later in their career.”
With over €60 million invested in capital development in the last 10 years LYIT is one of the most modern colleges in Ireland. Located on 2 campuses in Letterkenny and Killybegs, it has excellent facilities, including a floodlit outdoor playing field and well-equipped gym, a refurbished cookery demonstration classroom, state-of-the art science labs and the only Wind Energy Training Tower in Ireland.
The School of Tourism at Killybegs provides highly respected courses in tourism, hospitality and culinary arts, with an ambitious European and US exchange programme. In fact it featured as “one of the most respected colleges in tourism” in the recent Irish Times CAO supplement (Jan 2014).
The student centred approach to learning and support make LYIT distinct, with approachable lecturers, flexible learning, a friendly campus with lots of clubs/societies and sports.
“We want to make the learning experience an engaging and positive one. Our graduates leave us not only with highly regarded qualifications but with skills such as communication and problem solving, which will help them succeed. We will continue to provide relevant programmes which increase the employability of all our graduates,” adds Billy Bennett.
