Milford athlete Brendan Boyce set a new personal best and delivered an excellent performance in the final of the 50km race walk at the European Championships in Zurich earlier this morning.
Boyce finished a credible 16th, in a field that contained a whole host of top-class athletes.
Boyce will be delighted that he set a new personal best, and will take huge encouragement from finishing in the top 20 against the best in Europe.
There was huge disappointment for Boyce’s training partner Rob Heffernan.
The medal hopeful who won Gold at the World Championships in Moscow last year, pulled up at the 40km mark due to fatigue, and he admitted in an interview afterwards that he “fell apart mentally.”
