BREAKING NEWS: FIRE crews and volunteers are working to pump thousands of gallons of water from the car park at the new Emergency Department of Letterkenny General Hospital tonight as water poured into parts of the hospital.
Devastating downpours sent torrents of water gushing through the area at teatime.
It comes a year and a week after €25M worth of damage was caused at the hospital.
Some flood defences have worked this evening.
However they haven’t been able to cope with up to 35mm of rainfall in the past hour.
The hospital has activated a full scale emergency response.
There are reports that water has got through a rear door of the hospital.
Two fire brigade units and DS Environmental Services are working at the scene.
They are attempting to clear the drains; with a JCB bringing sandbags down to the site.
It appears at this stage that water came down from the road and into the car park.
