A DIVER from Strabane has died tonight after a dramatic rescue off the Donegal coast.
Killybegs Coast Guard boat and shore teams were tasked by Malin Head CGS this afternoon at 4:30pm to a report of a diver in difficulty close to the shore at St Johns Point.
When Killybegs Coast Guard along with Bundoran RNLI lifeboat arrived on scene the divers had been taken to shore and CPR had started on the diver.
CPR continued on the casualty while Bundoran lifeboat transferred the casualty to St John’s Point beach to a waiting ambulance.
Killybegs Coast Guard members transferred the casualty to Rescue 118 which airlifted the casualty to Sligo General Hospital.
“The casualty sadly passed away this evening. May he rest in peace,” said a Coast Guard spokesman.
Killybegs CG would like to thank Bundoran Lifeboat, Rescue 118 and all the members of the public who helped at the scene.
