ONE of the most exciting new developments in Irish football this year has been the launch of the McDonald’s FAI Future Football Programme.
Last weekend, on Saturday 28th June at Leckview in Letterkenny, the McDonalds Programme commenced following an application procedure, with a total of 6 clubs taking part including Mulroy Academy, Lagan Harps, Cockhill Celtic, Swilly Rovers, Gweedore Celtic, and Buncrana Hearts.
McDonald’s FAI Future Football Fun Days sees the clubs participate in free community Fun Days, including 4 v 4 and 7 v 7 games, skills competitions, fun football activities and entertainment, all supported by McDonald’s.
These events are free of charge with open access for everyone to come along.
They are being held in 21 locations around Ireland over the summer.
McDonald’s FAI Future Football is a brand new programme designed to support clubs and enhance the great work they do at local level.
This new club initiative has been developed to combine various elements of coach education, player development and club management that will give young footballers a platform for the application of their skills in an inclusive, fun and friendly environment.
The elements making up the programme are –
Coach Education – New Small Sided Games workshops (4v4 & 7v7) have been developed in line with the Future Football Programme.
10 free places will be available on each course to all clubs involved.
This part of the programme has already been rolled out to 83 participating clubs.
McDonald’s FAI Future Football Fun Days –A community football event, hosted by a number of the participating clubs.
These include football activities, skills competitions and entertainment.
The events are free of charge and with open access for everyone to come along.
McDonald’s FAI Future Football Cup Competition – Run in conjunction with the football Fun Days, and only open to participating clubs.
There will be three age categories (u8, u9 & u10), and teams will be mixed, i.e. boys and girls.
McDonald’s FAI Future Football Cup Finals Day – Teams can progress from the non competitive fun day to a regionals day in Sligo followed by a final day, to be held on 11th October 2014 in Dublin, with 2 teams from each fun day going forward based on their attitude, honesty, fair play and respect.
These activities will be held in and around the AVIVA stadium, with all participants attending an international game later that evening.
