Harps started the game brightly and took the lead after only 3mins, a Darragh Black cross was well finished off by Dean McConnell. Brian McGrory missed a great chance to put Harps two nil up as he blazed over from an Aaron Scanlon cross. Mark Brolly made a great solo run and narrowly shot wide. In the second half Harps had another great chance as Lynch did well to save from McConnell. Derry had a few chances to draw level and Curtis had their best effort but Patton made a great save to deny him. On 62mins, Derry got the equaliser as Conor Harkin set up Michael Barr to finish well. On 70mins a Curtis flick on was met by Barr and he finished low into the net. They got the clincher on 85mins as Aidan Doherty set up Holden to put the game beyond Harps.

League champions Cockhill ran riot on Sunday, hitting a youthful Fanad side for six to go four points clear with four games remaining. The home side took the lead when new signing Conor Carlin cut the ball back for James Bradley who guided the ball past the helpless Joe Coll. They doubled their advantage five minutes later when a Gerry Gill pass found Garbhan Friel and the big striker muscled his way past the Fanad defender before smashing past Coll. The game was over as a contest before the half hour mark when Gerry Gill cut in from the left and drove past Coll who was wrong footed in the Fanad goal. Although Brian McVeigh managed to get a goal back for the away side following sloppy work from the home defence, it still looked like a matter of time before the champions struck again and they did through Friel before half time. Full back Kieran McLaughlin got to the bye line and cut a superb cross back for the big striker who finished expertly on the volley inside the box.
New signing Carlin got off the mark on his home debut, scoring a thirty yard pile driver six minutes after the restart. The home side passed up a number of gilt edged chances to increase their lead before finally adding a sixth again through Conor Carlin. The diminutive striker ran onto a Daniel Doherty ball over the top before producing a delicious lob over the stranded Coll to complete the rout. With Derry City dropping points in Bonagee, the league title is now well within sight for Donal O’Brien’s men.

Derry City’s assault on the league title was dealt a blow on Sunday afternoon when they shared the points with a hard-working Bonagee performance. The home team struck as early as the 3rd minute when Frankie McBrearty’s long ball into the danger area was prodded home by ex-Derry City striker Kevin Barr. Derry were playing free-flowing football, and at times were a joy to watch and they were unlucky not to draw level in the 27th minute when a Conor Harkin effort from distance caught the underside of the crossbar and cleared to safety. The visitors had argued that the ball had crossed the line, but referee Marty McGarrigle waved away any protests to leave Bonagee ahead going into the break. Derry did restore parity two minutes into the second half. Debutant Stephen Conroy in the Bonagee nets misjudged a Caolan Kelly shot from 25 yards to leave the score 1-1. With both defences on top for the second half, chances were scarce for either side, with the exception of a Barr effort from the edge of the box for the home team and a Georgie Kelly snapshot that warmed the fingers of Conroy. With four games remaining, John Quigg will be disappointed with dropping the two points, but will be happy with his team’s performance overall.

An eight goal thriller at a sun drenched Swilly Park on Saturday. The old cliché a game of two halves certainly applied to this game. Swilly led 4-1 at half time and missed a few glorious chances. Kyle Black with a clinical 6 yard finish, Dylan Hegarty with a low drive, a brilliant half volley by Laurence Toland and a crafty headed goal by Martin McDaid had the Ramelton men in cruise control. Gary Patton fired home a good effort for Drumkeen. In the second half Drumkeen upped their game as Swilly became lack lustre. A brilliant lobbed effort by Richie Moore and another Moore superb low drive had Drumkeen back to 4-3. Chris Mc Bride’s headed effort came close too as they piled on the pressure. Laurence Toland eased the home team’s worries with a clinical finish after a glorious through ball by Jordan Toland to send the home fans home happy. It’s six wins in a row now for Swilly as they prepare for the Knockalla Caravans cup final v Letterkenny Rovers in what promises to be a fascinating battle of the Rovers. The league’s top scorer Calvin Mooney of Swilly will return for that game.

Three goals in the opening 15 minutes from Letterkenny settled this game played in ideal conditions at Traigh-a-Loch. Rovers opened the scoring as early as the 1st minute when Fanad keeper Joe Coll could only palm a shot out to Jason Doherty who finished neatly. 4 minutes later Stevie O’Donnell scored the first of his 3 goals when he seized on a defensive mix-up to shoot across Coll into the corner. O’Donnell got his 2nd 10 minutes later when he cut inside and shot into the far corner although Coll should have done better after getting both hands to the shot. Fanad started to get into the game and should have pulled a goal back in the 20th minute when Adam Serrinha failed to get any power on his shot from an excellent Ronan Sweeney cross. The rest of the half was end to end without either team creating any clear cut chances.
Fanad started the second half very brightly and Rovers had keeper Christopher O’Donnell to thank when he made a series of excellent saves. The first came from a Keelin McElwaine header from a Conor Mathewson cross. From the resulting corner Shaun McElwaine headed just wide. O’Donnell then made 2 good saves in 3 minutes, first from an Adam Serrinha shot 57 mins then from a Keelin McElwaine shot after he was put through by an excellent ball from Declan Sweeney. Fanad were made to pay for their missed chances in the 70th minute when Stevie O’Donnell completed his hat-trick when he was given far too much room in the box and he curled his shot into the far corner. Credit has to be given to both teams who tried to play football the right way. Best for Fanad were Johnny Logue and Keelin McElwaine. Best for Rovers were Christopher O’Donnell and Stevie O’Donnell.

Bonagee came into this fixture with two victories out of two, and they continued their good start to the season by beating a Fanad Utd side that caused the home team a few problems in the second half. Fanad raced out of the blocks and took the lead in the 2nd minute. A Conor Matthewson free from the left was headed past Roy Duffy by Dean McCarry for his first goal of the season. Their lead was almost doubled four minutes later when Mark Wilson raced clear only to be denied by Duffy. Bonagee were beginning to take control in the game and chances by Kevin Doran and Mark Harkin failed to trouble Shane Graham in the opposition nets. They did draw level in the 22nd minute when Harkin ran thirty yards and placed the ball into the far corner of the net to leave the score 1-1 at the break. Fanad certainly dominated the early part of the second half, with Mathewson and James McCahill both testing Duffy in the home goal. Bonagee took the lead in the 66th minute, when following an excellent save from Duffy, the ball broke to Doran who released the ball to Odhran Barron, who ran to score past Graham. The third and decisive goal arrived in the 80th minute, when Harkin flicked the ball home from three yards following a Ciaran Gibson cross. Ref Tommy McAree
