Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on Fine Gael elected representatives in the county to clarify what understanding they have been given by their Government colleagues after the latest response from the Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar on Cockhill Bridge outside Buncrana.
The Sinn Fein deputy says an answer to parliamentary question from him does not indicate any change in the “repeated failure” to fund a new bridge at Cockhill.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn said: “I understand that local Fine Gael elected representatives have been giving assurances that a new bridge at Cockhill will be finally be funded by this Government.
“If that is the case then I will be delighted and welcome it. However, the latest response that I have received from Minister Leo Varadkar does not tally with those assurances.
“I am calling on the Fine Gael elected representatives to sort this out and let the people of Inishowen know what is the exact position and what assurances have they been given.
“This is a long running injustice and the people of Inishowen need a solution”.
