COAST GUARD FORCED TO RESCUE MORE ‘IDIOTS’ IN A DINGHY

Killybegs Coast GuardTHEY have repeated their warnings until they are blue in the face.

But Donegal Coast Guard appeals for people not to go out to sea in cheap dinghies didn’t stop more “idiots” taking to the water again.

Killybegs Coast Guard staff and volunteers were forced once again to go to the aid of two people who went out to sea – in a dinghy bought for €35 in a supermarket.

And the duo didn’t even have lifejackets.

This is the FIFTH rescue of people in dinghies off the County Donegal coast in the past four weeks.

“We have issued warning after warning and it appears there are still people willing to place their lives and the lives of others at risk,” said a spokesman.

“It is idiotic to go to sea in a dinghy without life jackets. We would once again urge people not to behave like this.”

Last month Coast Guard officials called on Donegal Daily for fines for people who take to the water without life jackets – or using unsuitable vessels.
