Well done to all the fin swimmers who took part in Saturday’s Sheephaven SAC Annual John Mc Garvey Memorial Fin Swim.
At 3.00pm 32 participants struck out from Burtonport on the ebbing tide that drove them across to Arranmore in 1 hr 50 minutes. The Sheephaven snorkelers were joined by past members of the club, members of the Rosses Snorkelers and well-knwon long-distance swimmer Anne Marie Ward.
Weather conditions were the best encountered over the years of going to Aranmore, with sunny skies and crystal clear waters.
The swimmers were supported by 3 boats, their Dry Coxswains and their crews, along with the presence of the Bunbeg Coastguard, for which the participants are very much appreciative.
Thanks to the Mc Garvey family who saw us off from Burtonport and later on were on Aranmore to welcome us home, to Jerry Early for his hospitality and especially to Hugo Mc Fadden for leading the day’s activities.
An event such as this relies heavily on the generosity of the guys who towed and took time to fuel the boats, but in particular Joe Neely who provided support in his own boat, thanks to all involved.
All funds raised go the Sheephaven Search and Recovery Funds, for which the Unit is truly grateful.
Finally Happy 44th Birthday to Paul Mc Cabe and a big thanks to Anne Boyle for organizing his wonderfully decorated birthday cake, which was truly fitting for the day that was in it.
