Gardaí are investigating the driver in this video of a dangerous driver doing a ‘doughnut’ manoeuvre outside Letterkenny Court House.
The driver, from the North, was in Letterkenny to watch the Donegal Rally.
The video of his antics in the centre of the town – in broad daylight – has been posted to social media.
Another man stood in the centre of the road whilst his friend spun his car around him.
It has sparked an angry reaction from people opposed to the Donegal International Rally, because it attracts dangerous boy racers to the county.
Five people have already been arrested by Gardaí for dangerous driving.
Rally organisers have put a huge emphasis on road safety again this year for an event which brings millions of euro into the local economy.
However it appears the message is not getting across to a small number of individuals.
In the video the young man filming it can be heard shouting ‘Go On John’ in what was a dangerous incident orchestrated for the cameras.
The man filming it – and the man driving the car – had boasted earlier on Facebook about it.
“Wait til ye see what we do in Letterkenny,” wrote one.
Shocked motorists had to stay at lights to avoid a collision at a busy junction between Letterkenny Court House (where John will be appearing some time soon) and Gallagher’s Hotel.
Today a Garda spokesman said: “We are aware of this video and an investigation is under way into it.
“The behaviour on display is extremely dangerous and we will make every effort to bring all those involved before the courts.”
The car registration number is clearly visible in the Facebook post – with the man who made the video tagging the name of the driver.
